Under QRMP you pay tax monthly but file returns quarterly. Tax for months 1 and 2 goes out by PMT-06 challan; the return and any balance are settled in month 3.

QRMP Eligibility

Any GST-registered taxpayer whose aggregate annual turnover in the preceding financial year is up to ₹5 crore can opt for QRMP.

Who is excluded? Composition dealers, TDS/TCS deductors, NRTP, OIDAR, ISD.

Choice level? GSTIN-wise — different GSTINs of the same PAN can choose differently.

When can we Opt-in? 1st of month 2 of the preceding quarter to the last day of month 1 of the quarter.

When to make Tax Payment

Tax for the first two months of the quarter is paid through form PMT-06 by the 25th of the following month. You choose one of two ways to compute it

1. Fixed Sum Method

Pay 35% of net cash tax of the last quarter (if you filed quarterly). This is an auto-populated challan — no computation needed.

2. Actual/Self-Assessment Method

Pay actual tax = outward liability minus eligible ITC, uses your GSTR-2B to check available credit. This method avoids over/under-payment.

Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF)

The IFF lets QRMP taxpayers upload B2B invoices, credit and debit notes for months 1 and 2 so buyers can claim ITC in their GSTR-2B without waiting for the quarterly GSTR-1. Month-3 invoices go straight into the quarterly GSTR-1.

Any limit? No, earlier ₹50 lakh/month cap no longer applies.

Is QRMP mandatory or optional?

It is optional. Eligible taxpayers (turnover ≤ ₹5 crore) can choose QRMP or continue with monthly filing. New registrants with turnover up to ₹5 crore are auto-assigned QRMP but can opt out to monthly filing. Once you opt in, QRMP continues for future quarters until you opt out.

What happens if my PMT-06 payment does not match my actual liability?

If you paid less than the actual liability, the shortfall is payable with the quarterly GSTR-3B and interest at 18% per annum applies on the shortfall from the due date. If you overpaid, the excess remains in your electronic cash ledger and is automatically adjusted against the GSTR-3B liability.

QRMP vs monthly filing — which is better?

QRMP is better for small or B2C-focused businesses that want fewer returns and simpler compliance. Monthly filing is better for B2B-heavy businesses whose buyers need ITC every month, because under QRMP buyers see ITC only quarterly unless you use the IFF. Both require monthly tax payment; QRMP only reduces the number of returns.
